Sunday - 9/23
Since the train station was across the street, there was no commute to begin the last part of the journey. Unfortunately, once again, we had a non-waterside view, but the train wasn't crowded. The empty seats, offered the opportunity to get some sunrise shots.
Spent the 5+ hours of train travel productively. Did some catching up on the blog posts. Deanna did a lot of sleeping.
Voila! We're in Paris. After making our way to the Metro and traveling on two trains, we exit the Metro, at the station nearest our hotel. We walk up the stairs and onto the streets of Paris. The City of Lights. The City of Love. The City of Rain, Wind & Cold. This was our first glimpse of Paris.
Our hotel was on the outskirts of Paris. The plan was to walk the few blocks from the Metro, to our hotel. However, those plans quickly changed. We scampered for shelter, in the doorway of a nearby bar/cafe, as the rain and wind intensified.
As we stood in the doorway and talked through our options, a woman overheard us speaking English and asked where we were from. We told her and she asked, "Why are you here?" Our response, "Just visiting." She responded, "There's nothing here." Meaning, there's nothing to see, in this part of the city. We laughed and told her our hotel was in the area and that was why we were there. Several times during the day, Deanna and I repeated and laughed about her comment, "There's nothing here."
It became apparent, the rain wouldn't be easing up, any time soon. Time to get an Uber ride. There wasn't any sightseeing on that day. We did laundry and relaxed in the room. All day Monday and Tuesday morning, will be filled with sightseeing. Deanna travels home, Tuesday afternoon.
