Up and out the door by about 7:30 am. The morning was chilly, misty and foggy. It was easy to figure out which way to walk, just follow the many bodies making their way through the fog, laden with backpacks. The walk today is a little over 12 miles and will once again, include many hills, as well as a steep downhill.
A reminder of how far we must go
On the Camino there is varied terrain, but today was the worst. The rocks, of all sizes (mostly medium to large) made climbing and descending a bit precarious. It is extremely important to watch your steps. Otherwise, a misstep could mean a twisted ankle or a fall. One wrong step and your Camino could be over. The other issue is the wear on your feet and ankles. Walking on the rocks for 4+ hours is brutal. The bottoms of my feet felt as if someone had beaten them with a stick. After 13.72 miles and 1134 ft. elevation gain, mostly everyone came limping into Lubiri, tired and ready for a shower, rest, food and a good night's sleep.
An example of the rocks. Refreshment stop. Cathedral bells
